Vincent Croteau's profile

Montréal Jazz Festival // le festival sous les étoiles

Montreal, in the heart of July. The heat of a summer night, which promises to be a long one. Standing on the Place des Arts esplande, I await the first notes of the imminent concert. I lift my eyes heavenward and detect first one star, then another, then a veritable constellation. Many stars have illuminated the Montreal sky over the course of these past three decades, gathering to form this great constellation. Some blazed with every iota of their flame, others flew past at the speed of light, and still others ascended to the firmament.

A relfexion of that constellation, this work gathers those stars that have illuminated our sky for 30 years, in turn sparkling in the eyes of music lovers. From the very first concert by Ray Charles in 1980 to the electrifying Bran Van 300 concert in 2008. Hundreds of photos capture with emotion the appearances of countless jazz stars such as Miles Davis, James Brown and Ella Fitzgerald. Many other artists from all over the world are also in the book, Ben Harper, Youssou N'Dour, Manu Chao, just to name a few.
